How Asper works

Your Asper jewellery has a tiny NFC chip built into it the same technology you use when you tap your phone to pay. When someone holds a phone close to your jewellery, it opens your medical profile in their browser. No app needed on their end.

Before that can happen, you'll need to activate the jewellery and connect it to your profile. It only takes a minute or two.

Scan your jewellery

Hold the top of your phone against your jewellery. Because it hasn't been activated yet, it will take you straight to the activation page.

Enter your email

On the activation page, type in your email address and tap confirm. We'll send you a confirmation email straight away.

Open the email and activate

Open the email from Asper London and tap the activation link. That's it, your jewellery is now connected to your medical profile and ready to go.

SCANNING

How to scan

NFC is built into most modern smartphones, but the reader sits in a slightly different spot depending on your phone. Hold your phone against the jewellery for a second or two — you'll feel a small vibration or see a notification when it's been read.

iPhone 7 and later

Hold the top edge of your iPhone against the jewellery. The NFC reader sits right at the top of the phone, behind the screen.

iPhone XR / XS and later will scan automatically — no need to open anything first
iPhone 7, 8, and X require you to open Control Centre and tap the NFC tag reader icon before scanning
Make sure your phone is unlocked

Tip — If you have a thick phone case, try removing it for your first scan. Most cases work fine, but some very bulky ones can interfere with the signal.

Samsung Galaxy phones

The NFC reader on Samsung phones is usually located in the center of the back panel.

Make sure NFC is toggled ON in Quick Settings / Settings > Connections
Hold the middle of the back of your phone against the jewellery
Make sure your phone is unlocked

Tip — If scanning doesn't trigger, move the phone slightly up or down to align the central NFC antenna.

Google Pixel phones

Google Pixel phones typically have their NFC module near the upper-middle rear area below the camera bar.

Ensure NFC is enabled in Settings > Connected devices
Hold the back of your Pixel near the top/center against the jewellery
Screen must be unlocked

Tip — Thick cases or magnetic attachments on the back can reduce NFC sensitivity.

Other Android smartphones

Most modern Android smartphones have NFC built-in. Check your phone settings to ensure NFC is turned on.

Search for "NFC" in your phone's Settings menu and switch it on
Slowly move the back of your phone over the jewellery to locate the antenna
Ensure your screen is awake and unlocked

Tip — Consult your phone manufacturer's guide if you are unsure of your phone's NFC reader position.

COMPLETION

Finalise your profile

At this stage, you're almost ready to go. All that's left is to:

Build your profile
Add your medication, conditions, and allergies etc
Emergency contacts
Set your privacy levels so you're deciding who can see what

That's it. You're ready to carry on with your day.

Build your profile

Log in to the Asper app and add your medical information — conditions, allergies, medications, emergency contacts, and anything else you'd like first responders or medical professionals to see. You choose exactly what's visible and to whom.

Enter your email

Not everything needs to be visible to everyone. You can set different access tiers — public information that anyone can see when they scan, semi-private details for those with a link, and private records that only you control.

Open the email and activate

That's all there is to it. Your jewellery works passively — there's nothing to charge, no app to keep open, and nothing to press in an emergency. If someone needs your medical information, they just hold their phone to your jewellery.

Can I share one specific document with a specialist?

Yes. Share any document straight from your profile, by secure link, email, AirDrop, or copy link, and set it to expire after a chosen time.

Can someone check my profile makes sense?

Yes, if you'd like that extra reassurance. An Asper doctor can review your completed profile and confirm your key medical details are clear and easy for others to act on.

Can the app integrate with my existing medical records?

At launch, Asper London allows you to manually input key details, ensuring your profile is always up to date. You can also upload your medical letters or documents directly from the facilities you visit—these are safely stored in your personal directory within the app, so everything is organised and accessible in one place. We are working towards integration with major healthcare systems so you can seamlessly connect your existing medical records in the future.

Do I have to complete it all in one go?

Not at all. Your progress saves as you go. Even a few essential details make a real difference if your jewellery is ever scanned, and you can build the rest over time. You can add a document which can transcribe most of the key bits for you.

Do I need to download an app?

Not to scan someone's jewellery. Any modern phone can read it with a simple tap, using the NFC already built in, nothing to install. You'll use the Asper app yourself to build and manage your own profile.

Does the app use AI and how reliable are its suggestions?

Yes. Asper London uses AI to read your medical document so that you can easily fill in your medical record. It does not interpret, understand or give medical advice. The AI is simply used as an administrative function to speed up data entry. The suggestions are reliable but just like a normal medical ID the healthcare professional is still responsible for verifying information that they use to make healthcare decisions.

How do I activate my jewellery?

Tap your jewellery against your phone and you'll be guided straight through setting up your profile. It takes a couple of minutes. You can also activate your jewellery from inside the app by going to jewellery and clicking add jewellery.

How do I add documents?

Upload them directly in the app, or forward them to your own secure Asper email address and they'll appear on your profile without any extra steps. You can also give that email address to your doctor or clinic, so records reach you straight from the source.

How does it actually work?

Every piece contains a small NFC chip, the same technology behind contactless payment. Hold a phone near your jewellery and it opens a secure page showing the medical details you've chosen to make visible. On your side, everything is set up and managed through the Asper app. If you have an Asper Medical ID card this will have a QR code which can be scanned to show the same medical ID. You can also share your medical ID from within the Asper App.

How does the jewellery work in an emergency?

The jewellery contains a scannable chip or QR code that provides authorised users—such as medical professionals and first responders—with immediate access to critical medical information and emergency instructions tailored to the wearer’s condition.

Is it only for worst-case moments?

Far from it. Many of our wearers use Asper at routine appointments, sharing a letter or report in seconds rather than repeating their history from memory, or while travelling, so an unfamiliar doctor abroad has the full picture straight away.

Is my medical data secure?

Yes. Your data is encrypted and stored on secure servers that comply with the highest industry standards for privacy and protection. Only you, and authorised medical professionals when you choose to share it, can access your information. We will never sell or misuse your data.

What can I actually store in my medical ID/Asper App?

As much or as little as you choose. Most people start with the essentials, conditions, allergies, medications, and key contacts, then add doctor's letters, test results, scans, and care plans as time allows. Everything sits on a clear timeline automatically.

What happens if I lose the jewellery itself?

Nothing is lost with it, but your data remains secure. Mark your jewellery as "Lost/Stolen" in the app and the jewellery will no longer link to your medical profile.

Your profile lives in your Asper account, not on the piece. Pair a replacement and everything continues exactly where it left off.

What if I'm not able to explain things myself?

A simple tap shows whoever's with you the details you've chosen to share: conditions, allergies, medications, and who to contact. No password, no unlocking your phone, no delay. It's there to make communicating easier when you need it, not to replace anyone's own judgement or professional care.

What is Asper London?

A collection of fine jewellery, each piece quietly holding a secure digital medical profile. A simple tap of a phone reveals the health information you choose to share, so whoever needs to understand your situation, a doctor, a carer, someone stepping in to help, has it without you needing to explain everything yourself.

Who can actually see my information?

Only what you decide, shown only to the people you choose. Every piece of information sits at one of three levels: visible to anyone who scans your jewellery, available to trusted people such as a doctor or family member through a secure code, or kept private to you alone. Any of these can be changed in a moment.

Who is it designed for?

Anyone who wants their medical history close at hand and beautifully presented. That includes people managing long-term conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy, those with severe allergies, parents of children with medical needs, and anyone who values the quiet reassurance of having it ready.

Will it look like medical jewellery?

No. Every piece is designed first as fine jewellery, available in 9kt gold, silver, or gold plated, with standard and bespoke designs available in the material of your choosing. The technology sits so discreetly inside that nobody would know it's there unless you tell them. This is a deliberate choice to allow you to wear a beautiful piece of jewellery containing your medical information. If you need to you can tell someone to tap your jewellery with their phone to access your medical ID.
